Young Adults in Louisiana May Be Banned from Buying Some Types of Firearms. The Louisiana State Senate Judiciary Committee has approved a bill that would ban the sale of what it calls “assault weapons” to anyone under the age of 21.
Senate Bill 274’s broad definition of an “assault weapon” includes any semiautomatic or pump-action rifle or semiautomatic pistol, AND anything with a pistol grip or thumbhole on the stock. Under federal law, licensed gun dealers can’t sell a handgun to anyone under the age of 21. However, Louisiana currently allows people older than 18 to purchase any kind of firearm from a gun show, private seller or on the internet. If SB 274 were to pass through both houses of the legislature it would ban licensed and non licensed dealers from selling these so called “assault weapons” to anyone under 21. Do you think Louisiana will follow in Florida’s footsteps by adding stricter gun laws? Let us know in the comments!
