Every day in Ireland 100’s of families present themselves as homeless and being in desperate need of housing, most have small children and are being turned away as there is no money in the kitty to offer them emergency accommodation. Eoin Donegan, The Hub-Ireland, North Bay Housing Crisis, National Citizens Movement and Housing Action Now, have been working tirelessly for a number of months to highlight this problem in Irish society and is organising this event to call on all citizens to assist them in helping these families to find homes. Many of these people are who we refer to as the Hidden Homeless, they spend their lives couch surfing (sleeping on friends sofa’s) 0r in some case sleeping in a car, These families are eventually forced to live on the streets with nothing more than a sleeping if they are lucky to keep warm, babies as young as one year old are spending the night in a dark, dingy, damp lane way, in shop doorways (if they are lucky enough not to be moved on) and in cold dark parks. Pregnant women are living in fear on the streets because there is nowhere else for them to go. This HAS to STOP, we cannot as a society accept this as fate for any human being let alone the most vulnerable. Please share this event and ask everyone you know to come on Tuesday to support the families affected. At least 5 of the families we are trying help will be there, please show them your support and show them that we care even if our government don’t. Details of the plan for the day will be given on the day, all you have to do is show up and help us to show those who are in power that we as a nation will not tolerate this any longer.
